Design with Intention: How AGC BTR is Taking Real Climate Action
OUR RESPONSIBILITY
Design that does more than look good, it reflects our responsibility. At AGC BTR, we believe good design doesn’t just follow trends – it responds to the times. That’s why climate accountability is embedded in the way we work, not just in what we say.
n 2023, we became the first UK-based interior design collective to have our near-term carbon reduction targets officially validated, a major step forward in turning ambition into action, and one that builds on our foundation as part of AGC, Britain’s first B Corp certified interior design collective.
less talks, more targets
At AGC BTR, our actions reflect what we stand for. Setting verified carbon reduction targets wasn’t a pivot – it was a natural next step. B Corp gave us the framework. SBTi gives us the science and the direction.
That’s why we’ve committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a globally recognised framework that holds businesses accountable to measurable carbon reduction, not just good intentions. For us, it’s about building integrity into the process, from the inside out.
We’ve also achieved carbon neutral status in both 2022 and 2023, offsetting a total of 175.7 tonnes of CO2e across our operations. Offsetting isn’t a badge, it’s a bridge. A way to take responsibility now, while we continue to drive long-term reductions across every part of our design and delivery process.
This marks a significant milestone, one that makes AGC the first UK-based interior design collective to achieve SBTi validation. We’re proud to be setting the pace for a more accountable, lower-impact approach to design in the residential sector.
Why It Matters to uS, and you
Whether it’s Build to Rent, hospitality or workspaces, the expectations around design have changed. It’s no longer just about how a space looks, it’s about how it performs over time, for the people using it and the planet supporting it.
Today’s developers and agents face increasing pressure to demonstrate environmental performance, from planning authorities, institutional investors and tenants alike. Design plays a central role in that. Every product choice, supplier relationship and delivery method contributes to the bigger picture.
At AGC BTR, we embed that thinking into every part of our process. From using verified partners and materials to specifying products with traceable, low-impact manufacturing, we don’t just design for now, we design with accountability built in.
That translates into stronger ESG credentials, clearer reporting, and ultimately, spaces that resonate with the people living, working or staying in them.
Dive Into Our Projects: Design with Purpose at Every Level
At AGC BTR, we work with manufacturers and makers who share our values, and back them up with transparent practices, innovative materials, and long-term thinking. Here’s a look at some highlights from recent projects:
Lobby floor lamp by Dirk Vander Kooij, created from ribbons of recycled plastic – layered, shaped and formed with zero waste in the process.
Table lamp by Tiptoe, a fellow B Corp, is designed for disassembly, longevity, and modularity, along with a side table featuring a pixelated surface made from post-consumer and industrial plastic.
Bar stools made from coffee waste and recycled plastic, blending material innovation with timeless form.
End-of-bed benches from Nkuku, a B Corp-certified supplier focused on fair production and natural materials.
Armchairs upholstered in 100% recycled cotton, delivering comfort and character without compromising on impact.
From verified carbon targets to recyclable materials, every decision we make is rooted in long-term thinking. Whether we’re designing for BTR, hospitality or workspaces, our goal is the same: to deliver interiors that look good, perform well, and stand up to scrutiny.
