MEET Ian stratford, Our New Senior Director

With more than 30 years of experience across agency, global relocation, land, new homes and Build to Rent (BTR), Ian has built an impressive career in the property industry. Bringing extensive sector knowledge, long-standing relationships and a wealth of experience to AGC, Ian joins us as Senior Director at an exciting time for both our business and the wider BTR sector.
We sat down with Ian to learn more about his journey into property, what attracted him to AGC, and his thoughts on the future of BTR.
ABOUT Ian…
You've spent 30 years working across agency, global relocation, land, new homes and BTR. What first drew you into the property industry, and what has kept you passionate about it?
“Honestly... I fell into it and never looked back! It's the type of sector that really gets under your skin. While there are the inevitable market ups and downs, there are so many people in the industry that I've loved working with over the years. It still excites me, and it's a sector that never stops evolving.”
What was it about AGC that made you want to join the team?
“The passion and the people. I could see this wasn't just a business that creates beautiful, brilliant spaces; it's a business that genuinely cares about the commercial impact of what it does. Having multi-disciplinary expertise all under one roof, alongside the ambition to become genuine partners to clients rather than just suppliers, really stood out to me.”

The BTR sector continues to evolve at pace. What do you see as the biggest opportunities and challenges facing the industry over the next five years?
“The biggest opportunity is the growing recognition that design and specification directly impact financial performance, from yields and occupancy rates to long-term asset value. Those who embrace this early in the process will have a real competitive edge.
The challenge remains around supply and build costs, but the sector is maturing fast, and that's genuinely exciting.”
What's your favourite building or place you've visited recently?
“I'd have to say The Author, King's Cross. It's a great example of how thoughtful design elevates everything, from the moment you walk through the entrance door to the communal spaces, co-working areas and the wider resident experience.”
One word to describe the future of BTR?
“Exciting! It's a sector that's constantly evolving, and I think the best is still to come.”
